The patron of the noble workers is no other than St. Pope Clement I, also known as Clement of Rome or Clemens Romanus. He was born in Rome, Italy, of parents with Jewish ancestry. The life of both Sts. Peter and Paul were the basis of his eventual conversion to Christianity.

He later became a religious and as history would have it, a bishop who was fortunate to be consecrated by St. Peter himself. His ascendancy to the papacy was an event in AD 88 – he was the fourth installed pope, inheriting the position from St. Cletus. His rule of the Church was inspired by the teachings and acts of Sts. Peter and Paul. He was also regarded as one of the first “Apostolic Fathers,” a designation by the Catholic Church referring to those religious figures believed to have had personal contact with the original apostles.

St. Pope Clement I is known for his letter to the Christian church in Corinth, the oldest genuine Christian document outside of the New Testament books and letters. During his lifetime and works, he consistently encouraged people to the duties of charity, and a rigid order of total submission to the authority of the church by obeying church leaders.

Through the years, miracles have been attributed to him. One of them is about a lamb who pointed out to St. Clement a secret spring of water while there was a severe drought. Catholic Christians are traditionally commemorating his feast day on the 23rd day of November which is a welcome celebration between Halloween and Christmas.

Let us all be inspired by the teachings of St. Clement I to achieve development, peace and national unity. With peace and love, we will be able to finally accomplish whatever goals we have set. Instead of finding faults and weaknesses in others, let us do our share to make our country a better place to live in – not just for today but also for the next generation.

We owe it to our Creator, our nation and ourselves!
